Abstract
This study presents a historical analysis of the taxonomic exploration of Leptodirini across Europe, the Caucasus, and the Near East from 1832 to 2026. Using a dataset comprising all currently known taxa, I reconstruct nearly two centuries of taxonomic research and evaluate temporal patterns of taxonomic discovery, taxonomic productivity, and author contributions. A total of 1338 taxa were described during the investigated period. The cumulative discovery curve reveals a persistent increase in the number of described taxa without approaching a clear asymptote, suggesting that the diversity of Leptodirini remains incompletely documented. Five major historical periods of taxonomic exploration were identified, reflecting successive phases of scientific development from the pioneering studies of the nineteenth century to the modern era of integrative taxonomy. The study further presents a complete chronological inventory of all currently known Leptodirini taxa described in Europe, the Caucasus, and the Near East between 1832 and 2026, documenting authorship, dates of description, and geographic distribution.
