First record of Isorhipis nigriceps (MANNERHEIM, 1823) (Coleoptera: Eucnemidae) in the Bieszczady Mountains and a second for Poland with zoogeographic remarks
Abstract
The occurrence of Isorhipis nigriceps is reported from the Smerek River valley in the Western Bieszczady Mountains, south-eastern Poland. This is the second confirmed record of the species in Poland and the first from the Bieszczady Mountains, extending its known distribution within the Polish Carpathians. The record is based on three individuals associated with beech wood, indicating the presence of a local population. Together with previous records from adjacent areas of Slovakia, the new locality suggests that I. nigriceps may be more widely distributed in the eastern part of the Carpathian Arc than previously documented and that its distribution there may be more continuous than currently recognized. The paper also reviews the current knowledge of the species’ distribution, biology and ecology and discusses its occurrence and distribution in the Carpathians.
